Events 2005:

Foliage Season Peaks with Emmy Award-Winning Comedy
October 7, 2005

On Friday, October 7th at 7:30pm, The News in Revue, a musical political
satire performing company, will bring their show to the Southern Vermont
Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont in a benefit performance for the United
Way of Bennington County (UWBC). The show will help focus attention on
UWBC's current fundraising campaign, which kicked off on September 1st.

Created in 1991 by Nancy Holson, The News in Revue ran Off Broadway for 120
performances during the 1992 election season where it was well-reviewed by
the New York press, including The New York Times. After touring throughout
the country and settling in Norwalk, Connecticut, the troupe began their
string of summer runs in the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts, where
they have played since 1995. The News in Revue has performed at numerous
corporate and political functions throughout the country, including shows
for various dignitaries such as President Gerald Ford, Cabinet members,
senators, congressmen, mayors and the Speakers of the House from all fifty
states. They have performed eight television specials which have aired
nationally on PBS stations. For these performances, the group was nominated
for fifteen Emmy Awards and received five statuettes (three for acting, one
for writing and one for overall entertainment program).

One can always expect a few surprises in the show because as news stories
break, The News In Revue is on the job, producing topical tunes from their
uniquely zany perspective. Thankfully, at The News In Revue, laughs are
easier to find than weapons of mass destruction. According to Curtain Up
Berkshire, "The News in Revue is ...out to show that even when the news is
disheartening, life can still be a cabaret."

Said Magee Hickey of WNBC New York Television, "The show gets all its
inspirations from today's headlines and scandals and no one is spared...
It's for people who like biting satire... The cast is really talented -
they're very clever... They're terrific... It was fun."

Tickets for the performance and a post-performance reception - with an
opportunity to meet The News in Revue cast - are $60 per person. A silent
auction and live music complements a pre-performance reception as well. For
tickets or more information, call 802-442-4947.

Now in its 24th year, the United Way of Bennington County pulls together the
financial resources and human capital to provide needed funding for nine
member agencies in addition to other nonprofit organizations throughout the
county to ensure that communities continue to grow as vibrant centers for
living and working. The United Way of Bennington County is currently
providing leadership for the Bennington Youth Center project and other
youth-related efforts
